Ottawa Melbourne 2024

Ottawa Conference on the Assessment of Competence in Medicine and the Healthcare Professions

The 2024 Ottawa conference is taking place in the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, VIC, Australia from 24 – 28 February 2024.

OTTAWA 2024 will be co-hosted by AMEE and Deakin University, Australia.

The theme of the conference will be “Assessment: Near and Far”. This theme reflects some of the major challenges for assessment in health professional education into the future.

One of the key challenges will include where we assess – is it in remote and rural contexts with their own challenges and how near or far will the assessment occur in proximity to the patient and clinical practice? Perhaps one of the greatest challenges to assessment ever – how authentic can it be and how can we use it to reassure the public that we are preparing safe, caring and competent practitioners?

The “Near and Far” theme encompasses the current debates around modality of assessment – what can be and should be assessed online versus what should be assessed in person?
