The AMEE TEL (Technology Enhanced Learning) Committee Innovation Development Grant provides financial support for health professions educators to be creative in the development of new solutions to educational challenges that they face. 

Examples of these educational challenges include things like: 

  • Exploring the potential application of a new technology
  • Using a well-established technology in a novel way
  • Adapting currently available technology for low resource settings

    The grant is open to current AMEE individual and student members with creative and original ideas that address educational challenges with a new and innovative solution.

  • The Award

    There are four separate grants available, each £1,000GBP, awarded by the AMEE TEL Committee. The aim of each of these grants is to help and promote the development of innovative approaches using technology to enhance teaching and learning in health professions education.

    Successful applicants will be expected to:

  • Acknowledge the financial support of AMEE in all publications and presentations resulting from this grant.
  • Present their findings as a paper or poster at the AMEE Conference and submit their findings to the free, open-access AMEE TEL Committee Show &TEL community website.

    On the completion of the project - successful applicants are required to submit a final report on the project within six weeks following the end of the award.

    How to Apply

    The Expression of Interest application must include the following: 

  • Title of project - applicant names with affiliations and role in the project
  • Letter of support - Students and juniors in training will be required to provide a letter of support from a senior colleague which should clearly describe how the applicant will have an opportunity to perform the work described in the application, including dissemination. Expressions of interest without this letter of support will not be considered.
  • Abstract - A 300 word structured abstract providing a description of the project. It should include answers to the following questions:
  • What is your educational challenge? 
  • What is the innovation you want to develop?
  • Why do you believe it to be original and innovative?
  • Who will benefit from this innovation?
  • Budget - This section should clearly state how you intend to spend the money provided the grant. Amounts and justification of the items in the budget must be provided in a one-page outline.
  • Dissemination of the innovation - This section should contain a description of how the project will be disseminated to the wider community of health professions educators and inform future work.

    Please note that the following items cannot be funded by the grant:
  • The purchase of specific items of equipment unless it is essential and fully justified.
  • Salary or honoraria for the applicant.
  • Publication fees
  • Medical writers
  • Dissemination strategy

  • Applicants will be informed of the decision on their proposal following the application deadline.
