Professor Jennifer Cleland, Vice-Dean (Education), at LKCMedicine, Singapore and Director of the Medical Education Research and Scholarship Unit has been appointed as the Programme Chair for the AMEE 2024 Conference, location to be announced.
Professor Cleland is an internationally recognised medical educator and medical education researcher. Before coming to Singapore in January 2020, she was the inaugural John Simpson Chair of Medical Education Research at the University of Aberdeen, UK,
In this role, she established and directed the UK’s renowned Centre for Medical Education Research and Innovation (CHERI). In this role, she mentored many faculty, residents/trainees and students on education research projects, most notably in the areas of medical careers decision making, performance and assessment, widening access and selection to medicine, and surgical innovation.
She has delivered over 100 invited national and international talks, and published nearly 300 scientific papers and book chapter, as well as the textbook Researching Medical Education with Professor Steven Durning, USUHS, used as a core text for MHPE globally (2nd edition published in January 2023). She holds editorial roles with Medical Education and Advances in Health Sciences Education.
Recognition includes Honorary Professorial appointments at the Uniformed Services University of the USA; the University of Stellenbosh, South Africa, and Imperial College London, She is the recipient of various fellowships including: Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (Edinburgh), Associate Fellow of the Faculty of Surgical Trainers , Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, and Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Her most recent honour was receiving the Ian Hart International Award for Innovation in Medical Education in 2022.
