Summary of theme and why it is important:  Higher levels of student engagement have been reportedly linked to improved academic performance and institutional growth. As the winners of ASPIRE excellence in student engagement (SE) awards, we will engage participants in an informative and reflective workshop considering multiple paths to achieve SE in medical and veterinary schools. The exploration of our own culturally diverse contexts will provide a unique opportunity to understand the key ingredients to enhance SE.

We will be working in small groups to define SE, identify good practices of SE in your own contextes and pinpoint (perceived) challenges to enhancing SE. We will also focus on supportive systems needed to overcome these challenges. Among a few presentations we will speak about the key ingredients and present examples of the procedures in our institutions to excel in SE.

Who should participate in the Pre-Conference Workshop? Teachers, administrators, curriculum developers and students from medical, dental or veterinary education.

What will they gain from participating?  At completion of the workshop participants will: 1) appreciate global and local context specificity for excellence in SE, 2) identify good ideas/examples, and challenges and how to overcome the latter to enhance SE in their own institutions, 3) have easy access to ASPIRE Academy members for support at enhancing SE at their own school.

Cost: Euros 90 (includes coffee)

PLEASE NOTE: Pre-conference Workshop participants must also register for AMEE 2019 and pay the conference fee.
