Summary of theme and why it is important:  Defining success and measuring the impact of your educational offerings is a task and challenge for any organization, especially in the area of CDP where reporting may be less structured than medical school. The key questions to guide the development of a system are: how do you define success and what data do you need?, how will you use the information?, what stakeholders are involved and what reports should each group receive?, how can you offer excellent reports, and how can the process be communicated and made efficient? Data from any reporting system must help faculty to adjust individual events to meet the needs of the specific participants and must help committees to plan future events and to continually improve quality.
What participants will gain:  A step-by-step approach to develop structured, consistent data collection and reporting will be presented in the workshop. A process for many of the key steps will be shown through an illustrative example from our work with international surgeons. Some of these key steps include how to identify stakeholders and how to help them define success, how to identify the data to gather and the questions to ask, how to define and design reports, and how to train faculty to use the information for actions and planning. Attendees will be invited to bring scenarios from their institution or organization for input and feedback from small groups during the workshop.
Who should participate:  Directors or managers of CPD in any organization
Level of workshop:  Intermediate/Advanced
