Guidance:  Planning on submitting a Research Report? The AMEE Research Reports are reviewed by medical education scientists. Abstracts are generally rejected as Research Reports for one or more of the following reasons: Please review these prior to submitting your Research Report abstract to ensure that it meets the requirements for a Research Report.

Here are the major reasons why Research Reports are rejected by reviewers.

1.  Abstracts Better Suited as Short Communications or ePosters:

  • Simple pre- and post-evaluation of teaching innovations ('students liked it' or 'students learned from it’)
  • Cross-sectional questionnaire studies of opinions/perceptions without substantive theoretical contribution

2.  Abstracts Requiring Further Work:

  • Lack of clear research question or purpose
  • Errors in use/application of methods/methodologies or significant methodological details missing
  • Use of non-valid tools
  • Incomplete studies (studies must be completed at the time of submission of the Research Paper)
  • Abstract not comprehensible in English

And

  • Not related to medical/health professions education (e.g., clinical research)

If your proposed Research Paper abstract contains any of the categories listed above we encourage you to submit your abstract as a short communication/ePoster rather than a Research Paper
