AMEE Fringe

Do you want to present in the AMEE Fringe at AMEE 2021?

We haven’t so far invited abstracts for the Fringe this year, but all that is about to change!

If you haven’t experienced the AMEE Fringe, it provides the opportunity to present or to participate in something a little different – a new and perhaps provocative or idiosyncratic approach to healthcare professions education. We have some seasoned Fringe presenters and participants, and very much hope some of them will want to join in again this year! We’re also delighted that Anne de la Croix from Amsterdam UMC has again agreed to host the AMEE 2021 Fringe.

Unlike last year, the Fringe sessions at AMEE 2021 will be held in Zoom -  live - for a smaller audience who are asked to keep their cameras on. This allows for presenters to engage with the audience, and for the host to welcome participants in a characteristic Fringe manner! There will be more sessions this year, scheduled throughout the programme.

Approximately 15 minutes is allocated for each presentation. There is no prescribed format, and you may use the time however you wish, with an emphasis on creativity, performance and engagement with the audience. You can sing, dance, act, draw, tell stories, make participants laugh, or maybe even make them sad. We hope some may have an ‘aha’ moment, but at the very least we hope there will be a take-home message or two.

Would you like to submit an abstract?

There is no prescribed format, but we do wish to know in not more than 300 words:

  • The title of your presentation.

  • Name(s) of the presenters (we suggest no more than 6 - the submitter should be the lead presenter).

  • What is it about? What is the goal of your presentation and the point you want to make?

  • How will you present? How many people, what medium, which props?

  • In which way will you inspire/activate/energize/engage your audience?

In addition to this abstract, we invite you to make a short video in which you tell us a little bit about your topic and/or your presentation. This video should be maximum 2 minutes, and can consist of the presenting author explaining what their Fringe session would be about.

Your abstract and video should be sent by email to [email protected] by 7 May and not through the abstract submission site. Decisions will be announced by 31 May.

Fringe presenters are expected to register for the AMEE 2021 Virtual Conference and to pay the registration fee. Fringe presentations will be held on either Sunday 29 or Monday 30 August.
