About Course/Masterclass

The ESMECPD Course will provide AMEE participants with a global appreciation of current Best Practices ,  evidence and theory informing effective Continuing Professional Development, and practical approaches for implementing CPD within different settings.



This ESME course has been designed to meet the needs of individuals and healthcare professionals who are starting out on their journey to deliver CPD programs as well as those individuals looking to further increase their CPD knowledge. The first day of the program has been designed to cover the CPD fundamentals including but not limited to what makes CPD activities effective, setting goals and learning objectives, conducting a needs analysis, CPD delivery methods and program evaluation. For those individuals who would like to explore more in-depth CPD topics, day 2 will provide insight into techniques that can be used to enhance knowledge translation and how self- directed learning and a systems-based approach can improve patient safety and outcomes. The course follows a workshop format that is highly interactive and will employ a variety of methods including short presentations, small group work and individual reflection exercises. The ESMECPD program can be taken as a standalone module (ESMECPD Masterclass) or delegates can select to attend both days (Full ESMECPD course).

Should delegates wish to obtain an AMEE-ESMECPD Certificate in Medical Education following their attendance at the course, participants will be encouraged to apply what they learn to their current practices through developing a project of most relevance to them to. This will vary according to individual participants however, examples might include; designing and implementing a CPD innovation within a department, planning an evaluation framework, or creating an intervention to increase the credibility of CPD as an academic discipline within their organization

Participants may choose to submit, within six months of completion of the masterclass, a short report describing the application of the ESMECPD competencies in their own CPD practice, leading to award of the AMEE-ESMECPD Certificate in Medical Education.

This program should be of interest to those who are currently involved in the planning, organization and/or implementation of medical (health) education at the continuing professional development level.
