The importance of leader-follower relationships
About the module
Much of the traditional leadership literature has focused on the ‘hero’ leader, yet effective leadership cannot exist in isolation. Leaders rely on followers, and followers shape and influence leaders in return.
This module explores this dynamic relationship, helping you move beyond one-sided views of leadership to appreciate the central role of relational leadership and authentic followership.
Throughout the course, you will examine key principles of followership, relational leadership, and leader–follower identity formation, while also confronting the realities of toxic and destructive leadership.
You’ll engage with evidence-based readings, case studies, videos, and reflective activities that connect directly to your own professional experiences.
