Fellowship

Honorary Fellowship

It is common practice for academic institutions to award Honorary Fellowships. These awards are prestigious and bestowed upon individuals to honour their outstanding contribution to a specific field, or sometimes more generally to society. AMEE is now proud to announce its own AMEE Honorary Fellowship Award.

This award will be given to individuals who, through their outstanding academic contributions, have had significant impact upon medical and health professions education, and who would not normally apply for AMEE Fellowship through the usual channels. Because of its special nature, it is envisaged that very few awards of AMEE Honorary Fellowship will be made.

The AMEE Honorary Fellowship Award aims at:

  • Recognising outstanding scholars in general education who, as a result of their work, have significantly contributed to the field of medical and health professions education;
  • Rewarding individuals who, because of their leadership and societal impact, have provided great support for medical and health professions education, or have created opportunities and fostered innovation within their Institution, region or country for the advancement of medical and health professions education.

NOMINATION
Individual AMEE members or Institutional members can submit their nomination(s) for Honorary Fellowships; self-nomination is not accepted.

Two nominations are necessary for each individual proposed, one nominator being the lead, the other nominator being of a supportive nature. Each will be asked to provide a short synopsis and statement (a word limit of 750 words will apply) of why they feel that the award is justified, with the lead outlining the nature of the work of the applicant and their main contributions to medical and health professions education, and the second, a general letter of support. A focused curriculum vitae of the proposed individual will also be required. Each nomination will be reviewed by the AMEE Honorary Fellowship Awards Committee, representative of the AMEE management team, senior AMEE members and the membership at large.

The reviewers will focus on the following aspects of the nominations:

  • Honorary nominations based on academic excellence: The review is based on the documentation and evidence provided of the outstanding scholarship in the nominee’s academic field and how his or her work has contributed to medical and health professions education. The nominations are expected to synthesise the most significant scholarly work of the nominee, and describe and give examples of his or her contribution to medical and health professions education. The nominee’s curriculum vitae will serve as supporting evidence.
  • Honorary nomination based on leadership and/or societal impact: The review is based on the documentation and evidence provided of the nominee’s substantial support in creating opportunities and fostering innovation for the advancement of medical and health professions education. The nominations are expected to provide concrete examples and perspectives of the nominee’s personal positive impact on promoting medical and healthcare education. The nominee’s curriculum vitae will serve as supporting evidence.
