Membership eligibility
Membership of AMEE – the International Association for Health Professions Education is is available to anyone working, or with an interest in health professions education, in any field and in any country
We have a variety of individual membership types and Each membership type has certain eligibility requirements:
Student Member
- Must be studying for their primary healthcare qualification
- Student membership is for a maximum of 4 years.
- Extension beyond 4 years may be available on discussion with the AMEE Membership Team and presentation of accepted proof of student status
Early Career Member
- This is a progression from Student Membership or can be joined without having held membership previously
- This membership type is available for a maximum of 5 years
- Individuals who are more than 5 years post their primary healthcare qualification are not eligible for this membership and should join as Full Members
- There is no minimum period for this membership type and Early Career Members can progress to Full Membership at any point in the five years
Full Member
- This is a progression from Early Career or Student Membership, or can be joined without having held membership previously
- This is available to all individuals working professionally in healthcare education
- There is no minimum or maximum period of membership to this membership type
- This membership type grants the right to use the post-nominals MAMEE – please see further information relating to the awarding and use of post-nominals
Associate Fellow
- This is a progression from Full Member, or can be joined without having membership previously, on meeting all criteriaEligibility is governed by our criteria for Associate Fellows
- It is awarded on demonstration of meeting the relevant criteria or on completion of a relevant programme
- There is no minimum or maximum period of membership to this membership type
- This membership type grants the right to use the post-nominals AFAMEE – please see further information on the awarding and use of post-nominals
Fellow
- This is a progression from Associate Fellow, or can be joined without having held membership previously, on meeting all criteriaEligibility is governed by our criteria for Fellows
- It is awarded on demonstration of meeting the relevant criteria or on completion of a relevant programme
- There is no minimum or maximum period of membership to this membership type
- This membership type grants the right to use the post-nominals FAMEE – please see further information on the awarding and use of post-nominals
Retired Member/Fellow
- Must be formally retired
- Must receive no salaried income
- There is no age eligibility for this membership type
- There is no minimum or maximum period of membership to this membership type
- May continue to use any post-nominals gained from previous membership types
Life Member/Fellow
- Must be formally retired
- Must receive no salaried income
- Must be at least 70 years old
- There is no minimum or maximum period of membership to this membership type
- May continue to use any post-nominals gained from previous membership types
