Applications Now Open: AMEE Grant for Medical Educators working in Resource Constrained Settings (MERCS)

We are pleased to announce that applications are now open for the MERCS Grant, designed to support Health Professions Education (HPE) scholars working in emerging, disadvantaged, and resource-constrained settings.

Purpose of the Grant

This grant aims to provide meaningful financial support and research opportunities for HPE scholars who are conducting work in challenging contexts.

In particular, it seeks to:

  • Support HPE research in regions affected by ongoing conflict, migration, and poverty
  • Enable scholarly work in settings with limited access to basic healthcare services
  • Strengthen research capacity in economies in transition and developing economies

Eligibility

Eligible institutions must be based in countries classified as economies in transition or developing economies.

The grant is open to all applicants (excluding students), and AMEE membership is not required to apply.

What the Grant includes

  • Two grants will be awarded, each worth up to £2,000 GBP
  • A one-year free AMEE Resource-Constrained Individual membership
  • Full online access to the AMEE Guides via the AMEE Resource Centre

Key dates

Application closing date: 10 April 2026
