Taming Wicked Issues in Health Professions Education course module - AMEE

Taming Wicked Issues in Health Professions Education

Information about the Module

You have probably heard of Wicked Issues – these are complex problems that have no definitive solution. In this module, Prof Mennin presents some of the underpinning theory in concise, easy to follow chunks, with practical tips for using this theory to tackle your own Wicked Issues in small, manageable steps or ‘adaptive actions’.

By the end of this module, learners should be able to:

  • Identify and Classify Educational Challenges: Learners will be able to differentiate between simple, complicated, and wicked issues in medical education and effectively classify various problems using appropriate criteria.
  • Apply Adaptive Strategies: Learners will develop and apply adaptive strategies, such as the Adaptive Action framework, to manage and navigate wicked issues in medical education, fostering continuous improvement and resilience.
  • Engage Multiple Perspectives: Learners will recognize and integrate diverse stakeholder perspectives in addressing complex issues, promoting collaborative problem-solving and more holistic approaches to educational challenges.
