ESME Courses and Modules

Looking to the future of learning

At AMEE, we are committed to shaping the future of healthcare education. We’ve spent a long time reviewing our ESME courses, listening to feedback from our learners and consulting with experts from around the world, and we are excited to share our plan for their evolution and enhancement.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS COURSES

Building on a Legacy of Excellence

For the past twenty years, AMEE’s ESME courses have offered participants unparalleled access to expertise and resources. ESME courses aim to fill the gap between short, workshop-style training and formal postgraduate programmes, offering an introduction to key educational theories and principles that remains grounded in educational practice.

What sets AMEE apart from other providers is our global network of educators and our ability to adapt swiftly to emerging trends, ensuring our courses remain relevant and impactful.

A framework for personal development

Connect

Cultivating inclusive environments where educators can connect and thrive.

Grow

Providing pathways for career progression and personal growth.

Inspire

Empowering educators to become catalysts for positive impact and change.

One of our first steps was to develop a framework to underpin course development. All of our modules are mapped to this framework to help educators choose the most appropriate combination for their development needs. Our ESME module ‘Roles of the Teacher’ explores this framework in more details and supports its use as a tool to plan your personal and professional development.

COURSES AND MODULES

Embracing Change, Embracing Growth

Among other factors, the COVID pandemic and the explosion of generative AI tools created seismic shifts in the educational landscape. Existing trends for shorter, on-demand learning experiences and personalised learning journeys  were amplified, along with demand for micro-credentials and ‘portable’ credits.

In response to this, we have created a forward-thinking plan designed to ensure the continued success and relevance of our ESME courses.

An International Advisory Board

To support our work and ensure our courses remain relevant to educators from all health professions, at all stages of their career and from anywhere in the world, we have appointed an independent Advisory Board with representation from all major world regions.

Charting a Path Forward

Our first modules, ‘Roles of the Teacher’ and ‘Designing and Planning Learning’ are already available, along with a suite of CPD modules developed in partnership with Pfizer

Over the next few weeks, we will be releasing additional modules which include ‘Teaching and Facilitating Learning’,Supporting Learners’, “An Introduction to Assessment’ and ‘An Introduction to Education Leadership and Management’.

These will be followed by other high priority topics. Modules are built around a blend of written and multimedia content and include interactive activities, opportunities for discussion and space for reflection, which participants repeatedly tell us is one of the best features of our courses.

Proposals from Educators of the Health Workforce Community

As part of our commitment to listening to our community, we’re currently accepting proposals for new modules from AMEE members and you can submit a proposal here.

Alongside this we are exploring ways of adding value to the ESME experience, including offering opportunities to train and endorse course facilitators, post-course participation in communities of practice and options for external accreditation of our courses.

As we look ahead, we are excited to embrace new possibilities and chart a course towards a brighter future for healthcare education. We invite you to join us on this journey of discovery and growth. Together, we can shape the future of healthcare education, one empowered educator at a time, transforming healthcare for generations to come.
