Biographies

Andrew Ong is an Associate Professor of Medicine from Duke-NUS Medical School and serves as a senior consultant gastroenterologist at Singapore General Hospital.

He is involved nationally within the Ministry of Health, Singapore, in reforming the national faculty development framework and opportunities.

His other national contributions include leading the implementation and faculty development for Competency Based Medical Education/Entrustable Professional Activities within the postgraduate landscape of Singapore.

He is the co-lead for the Centre of Health Education Research & Scholarship within Singhealth.

Andrew serves as the program director for the Singhealth Gastroenterology Residency Program.

Andrew S. Parsons, MD, MPH is an Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Hospital Medicine and Associate Dean for Clinical Competency for the University of Virginia (UVA) School of Medicine in Charlottesville, Virginia, USA.

Dr. Parsons completed his internal medicine residency training at UVA following medical school at East Tennessee State University and a masters of public health at Emory University.

Dr. Parsons’ research is focused on clinical reasoning and fostering the growth of future medical leaders through coaching. Dr. Parsons’ leads faculty development initiatives in these areas and his work has led to impactful publications and national and international workshops on these topics.

He is currently a PhD candidate in the School of Health Professions Education at Maastricht University in the Netherlands.

Annette Burgess is Professor of Medical Education at Sydney Medical School, Faculty of Medicine and Health, The University of Sydney, Australia.

She is a Principal Fellow (PFHEA), Advance HE. Annette has received national and international awards for innovative teaching programs.

She currently leads the interprofessional Clinical Teacher Training (CTT) program and Clinical Teaching Fellowship for health professionals. Her research has attracted $9 million in funding.

Annette is currently focused on teacher and mentorship training for veterinary epidemiologists and team-based learning. She has more than 100 publications in peer reviewed journals and is co-Editor -in- Chief of The Clinical Teacher.

Boukje Compen works as an assistant professor at the Faculty of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences and School of Health Professions Education of Maastricht University, the Netherlands.

Boukje combines her work as a faculty developer with educational roles in various programmes, including the Master of Health Professions Education.

Her main research interests comprise faculty development that supports teachers in 1) fostering inclusive learning environments and 2) establishing and maintaining teacher identity.

Boukje is involved with the AMEE Faculty Development Committee and after attending her first ICFDHP in Glasgow in 2023, excited to contribute to the organisation of the 8th ICFDHP in Barcelona. See you there!

James (Jim) Boyle MBChB MD, MHPE FRCP H, serves as both Consultant Physican and Endocrinologist at Glasgow Royal infirmary and a Senior Investigator with NHS Research Scotland.

He holds various education roles within the School of Medicine and Dentistry, University of Glasgow both as Director of Health Professions Education and Scholarship Champion.

In addition, to leading Faculty Development he serves as Director of Year 3 MBChB, Academic Lead for Internal Medicine and Clinical Reasoning and Honorary Clinical Associate Professor, all for the Undergraduate Medical School.

He also has research interests in clinical reasoning, assessment and TELT and looks forward to warmly welcoming everyone to the 8th ICFDHP in Barcelona!

Jennifer Meka, PhD, is the Director of the Medical Education and Educational Research Institute (MEERI), and Associate Dean for Medical Education at the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, University at Buffalo.

With expertise in curriculum design and assessment, she is responsible for planning and implementing programs that enable faculty and learners to develop their skills as educators.

Additionally, Dr. Meka directs the Learning Sciences & Educational Success Program providing comprehensive support for learners across the continuum focusing on the use of evidence-based learning strategies.

She co-founded the national group, Medical Education Learning Specialists (MELS) and received the MELS Outstanding Service Award in November 2024.

Jennifer earned her PhD from the University at Buffalo’s graduate school of education. She is a returning scholar for several Harvard Macy Program courses, a member of the Gold Humanism Honor Society, and is excited to continue learning from and with the outstanding planning committee and participants at our upcoming conference!

Lisette van Bruggen, MSc., University Medical Center Utrecht, Education Center Professionals in Health Care, Utrecht The Netherlands, ORCID iD.

Lisette holds a master’s degree in educational sciences and has extensive experience with educational design in various contexts. Over 15 years she has been involved in faculty development initiatives at UMC Utrecht providing teacher training courses and coordinating the university teacher certification process.

She helped establish an Educator Community and worked as a staff member of the Center for Research and Development of Education.

She is currently working on a PhD on the development of Adaptive Expertise in Education for HPE.

Mark Lavercombe is a Clinician-Educator, an Associate Professor in the Department of Medical Education at Melbourne Medical School, and a senior Respiratory & Sleep Medicine Physician at Western Health in Victoria, Australia.

He is involved in medical education at all levels, from undergraduate to continuing professional development for senior clinicians.

Mark is an accredited supervisor of Respiratory & Sleep Advanced Trainees and a site surveyor for Basic Physician Training for the Royal Australasian College of Physicians.

Mark is an Associate Fellow of AMEE, a member of the Faculty Development Committee, and incredibly excited for the 8th ICFDHP in Barcelona!

Megan Anakin is a Senior Lecturer in Pharmacy Education at the University of Sydney.

At the Sydney Pharmacy School, she leads the newly established Pharmacy Education Unit.

Building on her passion for promoting scholarship and research in health professions education, she has established the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning group to support education-focused staff at the School.

Megan is an AMEE Fellow, member of the Faculty Development committee, and co-chair of the 8thICFDHP planning committee.

She is also co-editor of AMEE’s journal MedEdPublish

Professor Olanrewaju Sorinola PhD, FRCOG, FRANZCOG is Professor at University of Warwick Medical School and Consultant Urogynaecologist at South Warwickshire NHS University Foundation Trust.

His interest in faculty development is well documented; his PhD focused on realist evaluation of faculty development, and he is currently co-Chair of the AMEE Faculty Development committee.

His reputation in medical education spans beyond faculty development.

He is a Fellow of the Warwick International Higher Education Academy (WIHEA) and as Chair of the International Urogynaecological Association Public Relations Committee (2015-2020), he educated people worldwide on pelvic floor problems.

He has published extensively in urogynaecology and medical education and being invited speaker at various national and international conferences with awards at the International Education Conference, Malaysia 2022 and distinguished Professorship at Monash University, Melbourne, Australia 2022.

His passion is for inclusivity, reducing inequalities and helping all learners achieve excellence.

Rachel Levine MD, MPH is professor of medicine and Associate Dean for Faculty Educational Development, Johns Hopkins School of Medicine.

Dr. Levine’s areas of expertise include the design and facilitation of learning.

She directs several faculty development programs to build teaching skills and promote scholarly educators that have institutional and national impact.

Dr. Levine is active internationally as a member of the AMEE (the International Association for Health Professions Education) Faculty Development Committee.

She serves as the Continuing Professional Development cross-continuum consultant for the Association of American Medical Colleges.

Dr. Levine is an International Coaching Federation certified professional coach.

Professor Udechukwu Felix Ezepue is recently retired from the Faculty of Clinical Sciences, College of Medicine, University of Nigeria, Ituku Ozalla, Enugu State, Nigeria and its associated teaching hospital, the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital.

Felix is an ophthalmologist by specialization and further specialized in Community and Preventive Ophthalmology.

He continues to have a keen interest in Medical Education, particularly Faculty Development, spurred on by the experience of the challenges in teaching undergraduate medical and other medical and health sciences students in the College and postgraduate resident doctors in ophthalmology.

Felix has served as Head, Department of Anatomy and Head, Department of Ophthalmology, and Dean, Faculty of Medical Sciences, positions that made him acutely aware of the challenges of medical education in general and faculty development in particular.

He is a senior clergyman in the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion.
