AMEE Conference Gateway
We are pleased to announce that after a year of successful operation, we will be once again offering the Conference Gateway on MedEdPublish hosted by F1000, AMEE’s fully Open Access publishing platform. The Gateway will function as a repository for the abstract book, conference programme, and other essential conference-related documents. It will be searchable, shareable, and citeable. This allows conference presenters to create a permanent record of their presentations with a unique DOI that can be referenced in any related publications.
Who can publish in the Gateway?
Anyone who has work accepted for AMEE 2024 can publish their presentation in the platform. ePoster presenters can publish a pdf version of their poster (examples here) and all other presenters can publish their slide decks (examples here), along with their abstract to give context to the presentation.
Why publish in the Gateway?
All presentations published will be assigned a permanent DOI and benefit from being highly visible and easily discoverable in the MedEdPublish platform, which includes built in tools to make sharing and citing easier for readers, as well as key article-level metrics such as views, downloads, and citations to allow authors to track the impact of their work. In addition, if you subsequently choose to publish a peer-reviewed article related to your conference presentation you can refer back to the original presentation, allowing readers a richer insight into your work.
Inclusion in the Gateway means your work will form part of the conference’s legacy and will appear alongside other work from the same event, unlike documents stored in an institutional repository or pre-print server.
Isn’t my work being recorded and saved already?
Some conference sessions and all ePosters are recorded and hosted for onDemand access post-conference. However, this does not cover all presentations, and access is limited to delegates who have registered to attend the conference for a limited time post-conference. By publishing your presentation with a DOI you will be adding it to the wider corpus of scholarly work in your field and maximising the impact of your research.
Will my work be indexed in PubMed?
No, ePosters and slides will not be peer-reviewed are therefore not eligible for indexing. However, they will be assigned a permanent DOI and will be searchable, shareable and citeable within the platform. If you choose to subsequently publish your research / innovation in MedEdPublish, this will be eligible for indexing, subject to satisfactory peer review, and will appear in the Gateway along with your presentation.
Will publishing prevent me from submitting my work elsewhere?
No, absolutely not. ePosters and slides are not peer-reviewed, and we strongly encourage authors to submit their work for publication, citing the poster or presentation as appropriate. Similarly, if you’ve already published in a peer-reviewed journal, you can still submit your presentation to the Gateway and cite your original work.
What is the cost?
The cost to authors for publishing your ePoster/slides in MedEdPublish Gateway is €50.00+VAT, which can be paid through the conference registration site. This charge covers the costs incurred by AMEE for hosting the content, administering the DOI, conducting pre-publication checks and maintaining the publishing platform. AMEE does not retain any profit from publication, so we are unable to offer any additional discounts.
What do I need to do to prepare my presentation for publication?
We’ll issue full instructions closer to the conference, but our guidelines for authors can be viewed here. ePoster presenters will need to provide their poster in flat format but can include a link to their interactive poster.
All work submitted to the platform will be expected to conform to standard publication ethics, and it is the author’s responsibility to ensure that the work does not contain copyright images, that written consent has been obtained from any identifiable individuals in images and that the work is not plagiarised.
When will my presentation be published?
We expect the Gateway to launch 1-2 weeks after the close of the conference. Presenters will be invited to submit their work in advance so that it can be published immediately on launch and full details on how to do this will be provided nearer to the time.
What do I need to do now?
If you’re interested in this opportunity, and have had an abstract selected for presentation, you’ll be able to select the option to publish when you register for the conference. The fee will be added to your conference registration package, and we’ll be in touch with further details shortly. In the meantime, if you have any questions, you can email [email protected]
