ESSENTIAL SKILLS COURSES

Building on a Legacy of Excellence

For the past twenty years, AMEE’s ESME courses have offered participants unparalleled access to expertise and resources. ESME courses aim to bridge the gap between short, workshop-style training and formal postgraduate programmes, offering an introduction to key educational theories and principles that remains grounded in educational practice.

What sets AMEE apart from other providers is our global network of educators and our ability to adapt swiftly to emerging trends, ensuring our courses remain relevant and impactful.

A framework for personal development

Connect

Join and build global communities of practice together with AMEE.

Our ESME courses offer inclusive environments where educators can connect and thrive.

Grow

Develop the capacity to learn, practice, teach, research and lead.

For both new or experienced educator, ESME courses can support your career progression and personal growth.

Inspire

Challenge the assumptions of established educational practices

ESME courses empower educators to become catalysts for positive impact and change.

All of our course are mapped to a content framework to help educators choose the most appropriate combination for their development needs. Our ESME-mini course ‘Roles of the Teacher’ explores this framework in more details and supports its use as a tool to plan your personal and professional development.

COURSES AND MODULES

Embracing Change, Embracing Growth

Among other factors, the COVID pandemic and the explosion of generative AI tools created seismic shifts in the educational landscape. Existing trends for shorter, on-demand learning experiences and personalised learning journeys  were amplified, along with demand for micro-credentials and ‘portable’ credits.

In response to this, we have created a forward-thinking plan designed to ensure the continued success and relevance of our ESME courses.

An International Advisory Board

To support our work and ensure our courses remain relevant to educators from all health professions, at all stages of their career and from anywhere in the world, we have appointed an independent Advisory Board with representation from all major world regions.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS COURSES

Charting a Path Forward

Our popular ‘ESME-flexi’ course has been completely redeveloped into ‘An Introduction to Teaching and Learning in the Health Professions, and individual course modules can now be purchased as ‘ESME-mini’ courses for those who need an even more flexible approach to studying.

We’ve also made the six modules of our new ESME CPD in the Health Professions course, developed in partnership with Pfizer, available as a series of ESME-mini courses and more options are being added all the time

Our courses are all built around a blend of written and multimedia content and include interactive activities, opportunities for discussion and space for reflection, which participants repeatedly tell us is one of the best features of our courses.

Help shape our curriculum

We believe that our ESME courses should offer a ‘learner-led’ curriculum, which meets the needs of the AMEE community. To this end, all AMEE members can submit a proposal for a new course. Member proposals are reviewed twice a year to inform our courses development plan.

We are actively exploring ways of adding value to the ESME experience, including offering opportunities to train and endorse course facilitators, post-course participation in communities of practice and options for external accreditation of our courses.

As we look ahead, we are excited to embrace new possibilities and chart a course towards a brighter future for healthcare education. We invite you to join us on this journey of discovery and growth. Together, we can shape the future of healthcare education, one empowered educator at a time, transforming healthcare for generations to come.
